The general purpose of Gutters is to capture rainwater and to divert it to the downspout and away from your house. But you might not be aware of the many advantages of having an effective gutter system and without one just how much damage it could cause and expense it might incur as a result. Here is the purpose and importance of gutter system:
Your gutter system prevents water that falls on the roof from dripping down the sides of the house and collecting near the foundation. If the rainwater runs straight off the roof it can pool on the ground and will collect near the foundation which will seep in and cause flooding, leaking or even foundation problems over time.
Without gutters the rain water would pour down the sides of your house and running water will most likely find its way in, potentially causing damp and mould problems.
The fascia boards or rafters can begin to rot from the water constantly dripping as well as door and window framing.
It prevents the just rain rolling off your roof and damaging the ground below, just imagine it would not take too many rain storms to begin erode away a small trench on the ground right around the sides of your house. And never mind the damage it would do to your garden or flower beds. . Without rain gutters, gardens can flood and erode very quickly from the massive amounts of runoff.
Gutters also prevent icicles forming on the edge of your roof which could be a potential hazard to you walking in and out your home and could also damage your roofs shingles.
They also stop you getting soaked at your entrance where the rain water would be running over the edge of your roof and straight onto you, the rain is bad enough!
The sides of your house would get pretty muddy and grimy if everything that landed or grew or your roof was just washed down the sides of your house whenever it rained.
So your gutters actually have a really important job.
